Wheelie Bin Survey

A wheelie bin survey was conducted in October 2000 to gather information on residential bin use. The major findings of this analysis were:

•   Waste separation at the household is seasonal - poorest in the wet season
•   Residents respond well to public education - better separation after information calendar distributed
•   The tourist season impacts by increasing wet waste quantities at Bells Creek
•   The addition of 600 services in the Mission Beach during July increased wet waste quantities
•   Commercial waste going to the dry landfill decreases during the wet season
