Sustainable land management is a key to the continued availability of our natural resources for future generations.
Integrated Catchment Management seeks to manage a range of landuses, water and other natural resources in the river catchments, to ensure the future preservation of the environment while maintaining sustainable production. The main catchment in the Johnstone Shire is the Johnstone River Catchment, which has its head on the Atherton Tablelands and extends east to the Johnstone estuary near Innisfail. Other smaller catchments include the Moresby, Maria and Liverpool Catchments.
